Bordering the wide, gentle river for which the park is named, York River State Park holds 2,025 acres of land and is an excellent, accessible example of a coastal estuary, complete with great river access. Twenty-five miles of trails are open for hikers, bicyclists and horseback riders to use and explore, while the river is accessible farther north, from Croaker Landing. Along the river, fishing is a popular sport, with saltwater fish commonly occupying points along the estuary and freshwater fish living in Woodstock Pond. The park itself sits just upriver from the Camp Peary Naval Reservation, about 11 miles outside of Williamsburg proper.
Open daily 8:00 a.m. - dusk.
Entry fee $2 - $3. Boat launch and fishing fees vary, check website for details.
